Life Legacy

C. Ivan Bosma, 83, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 10, 2013. He was born November 22, 1929 in Sanborn, Iowa. Ivan was the seventh of fourteen children born to Ike and Elizabeth Bosma. He grew up on the family farm in Hospers, Iowa. He enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1951 to 1955. Ivan attended University of Oswego, graduating with a Masters in Education. Ivan married Doris Widmeyer on January 8, 1955. He retired from Canajoharie Central School after 30 years as a Guidance Counselor. His students and the faculty remember him fondly. His children remember their Dad for his amazing ability to over look the fact that they were his children, while they were students in Junior High. Ivan loved the outdoors, his dogs and horses, and hunting and fishing. His neat and flourishing garden was well known far and wide. His grandchildren fondly remember going to “the camp” with Grandpa every summer.
Ivan is survived by his wife, Doris Bosma, his children: Lorraine Bosma (Blake Hayes), Rebecca Reardon (Kent Reardon), Ivan Darvey Bosma (Deborah Horvath) and Barbara Bosma, his grandchildren: Danielle Anderson, Sarah Leneker (Dan Leneker), Loren Sutton, William Sutton, Brian Sutton, David Bosma, Dillon Bosma (Cristie Bosma), Daniel Bosma, his step-grandchildren: Rebecca Gross (Ryan Gross), Ashley Hayes, his honorary grandchildren: Addy Schneider, Marlise Schneider and Avery Schneider, his step-great-grandchildren: Annie Hayes and Ariella Gross. His loving dog, Louie, predeceased him.
In respect for the family wishes, there will be no calling hours with a private burial at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, NY. Burial will be in the Cherry Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Cherry Valley Community Facilities Corporation for their Performance and Production Workshops, PO Box 66, Cherry Valley NY 13320.
